The year of the Rabbit 🐇
The Lunar New Year just happened and 2023 is the year of the Rabbit. I’ve been creating a lot of illustrations inspired by it since last year.
During a class on printmaking, I made bunnies in a monoprint, a woodprint and a linoprint 😅
Monoprint (2022)
An interesting thing about the Chinese Zodiac is that each animal has its own element depending on the year. 2023 is water and I tried to incorporate it in the illustrations.
Woodprint (2022)
The woodprint was inspired by a few traditional prints, specially this one by Andrew Valko. I love how he used the negative space so beautifully and effectively. My test ended up quite busy but I quite enjoy the wood marks from the carving.
Linoprint (2022)
It has been a good excuse to create more illustrations of this cute animal. It really transports me to my childhood, when my grandpa used to have bunnies in his farm. He had them mostly for the children and only now I can appreciate all the invisible efforts he made to make that happen.
A gouache I did inspired by these memories
I remember the crunching noises when we fed them, the fluffy hugs (I was definitely a bit of an Elmyra Duff), their little noses and how it took time and patience to gain their trust.
Mini me and all the bunnies
I hope you are well and I wish you a Happy Lunar New Year! :)
